Hiring your first employee is a large step for any business. To assist you, the Department of Business Innovation & Skills has recently published an online toolkit which outlines the steps that an employer must take when employing someone for the first time.

These steps include information on:

-          Suitable rates of pay

-          Identifying whether an individual is legally able to be employed

-          Ensuring that you have suitable insurance

-          Understanding your obligations with regard to taxation and HM Revenue & Customs

The website also provides information and guidance on special schemes such as Apprenticeships, Grants & Young Persons Wage Incentives.

Please find out more information by clicking on the following link: Click Here

To further assist you in your move towards hiring an employee, the Department of Business Innovation & Skills have also published a document outlining common myths associated with employment laws and regulation.
